Flood Victims
The unprecedented flooding, caused by high seasonal rainfall around the country and the subsequent dam release, has had a devastating effect on the entire Niger Delta region. This destructive force of nature, which spans over 10 km inland, has ravished over a hundred communities within the area; wantonly destroying property and threatening the lives of the local people.
As a result of this, Nigerian entertainers led by multiple awards winning singer, Sammie Okposo, under the aegis of his Sammie Okposo Hope Initiative are planning a charity concert to raise more funds to support the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) who has confirmed the registration of over 50,000 internally displaced people in Delta State, where flood has ravaged a number of communities. This charity concert is essentially for the people of Delta State because Okposo’s own community, Isoko was seriously affected.
Speaking concerning this initiative, Okposo said the time has come for different stakeholders to join hands together to help the displaced citizens of this country. “No one can forget the tragic images of disaster in the immediate aftermath of the floods in Delta State, or the heartbreak of friends who lost homes, belongings, and, most importantly, loved ones. Obviously, right now, we’re still in recovery mode, and that means that our biggest priority is helping to house people who have been displaced, making sure that they’ve got the resources they need to re- enroll their kids in school, make sure that they’re able to get to their places of work, make sure that they can have the kind of support that they need to get restarted. These are however short-term measure. And I’m confident that as well meaning Nigerians and Deltans we will always support any good cause”.
“I strongly appeal to all well – meaning Nigerians and Deltans to open their hearts and show solidarity, support and generosity both in cash and kind to the victims of this flood disaster. My friends in the entertainment industry have volunteered to support this cause through an entertainment concert to hold at an agreed date in Asaba and Warri of Delta state.
Other Delta artistes supporting the initiative are Kefee, Anny, Essence, Harrysong, Daddy Showkey and few others. Seasoned music engineer, Foster Zeeno is also part of the project
